Transfer ownership
There must always be at least one owner of an organisation. To replace the owner, you transfer ownership.
When to use this
Section titled “When to use this”- You sold the business and the new owner is taking over.
- You’re stepping down and a deputy is taking the seat.
- You’re a consultant who set up the workspace for a client and it’s time to hand it over.
- Make sure the receiving person already exists as a member of the organisation. If not, invite them first.
- From the sidebar bottom dock, click Organisation Settings.
- Open the Danger Zone tab.
- Click Transfer ownership.
- Pick the receiving member from the dropdown.
- Confirm.
The receiving member is now an owner. You’re automatically demoted to admin (you can demote yourself to member afterwards if you want to step right down).
Multiple owners
Section titled “Multiple owners”You don’t have to replace an owner — adding a second owner is fine. From the Members tab, change another member’s role to Owner. You’ll then have two owners and either can do everything.
For most orgs, having two owners is good practice — it stops the “only one person can pay the bill” problem.
What changes for the new owner
Section titled “What changes for the new owner”- They can now delete the organisation.
- They can promote and demote other members, including other owners.
- They can manage billing.
- Everything they could do before still works.
The audit log records the transfer.
