Multi-organisation membership
A SteadyOn user (one email + login) can belong to several organisations at once. This page explains the model and how to use it.
The two membership types
Section titled “The two membership types”- Home member — your “main” organisation. Typically the one you signed up to create. Owners and admins are home members of the org they own or admin.
- Guest — a member of a different org. Same email, different workspace. Guests have access to use the data, but limited settings access.
A user has one home org and zero or more guest orgs.
Why the split
Section titled “Why the split”Two scenarios drive multi-org membership:
- You’re a consultant or contractor. You manage H&S for your own business (your home org) and you’ve been invited as a guest into a client’s org to help with theirs.
- You wear two hats inside a corporate group. You’re a manager of subsidiary A and a director of subsidiary B. The two might keep separate H&S registers; you need access to both.
In both cases the user is the same person but the data is strictly separated. Switching orgs reloads the whole app — sidebar, lists, dashboard — into the new org’s context.
What you can do where
Section titled “What you can do where”| Action | Home org | Guest org |
|---|---|---|
| Use Operations (hazards, incidents, actions, inspections) | ✅ | ✅ |
| Manage Capabilities (roles, people, training) | ✅ | ✅ (depends on role) |
| Edit org settings | Per role | ❌ |
| Edit billing | Per role | ❌ |
| Leave the org | — (transfer ownership first) | ✅ |
| Delete the org | Owner only | ❌ |
A guest’s role in the home org doesn’t carry over. You might be an owner of your own business and a member-level guest of a client.
Why data doesn’t cross
Section titled “Why data doesn’t cross”Each organisation is a self-contained workspace:
- Hazards, incidents, actions, inspections — none cross.
- Lookups, BRAG thresholds, risk matrix — none cross.
- People, roles, training courses — none cross.
This is essential for confidentiality. As a consultant, you don’t want the client’s hazard register visible inside your own. The org is the access boundary as well as the data boundary.
Switching orgs
Section titled “Switching orgs”From the avatar menu in the top right, click any org name to switch. The whole app reloads in that context. (See Switch organisations.)
What about your name
Section titled “What about your name”Your name and avatar follow you across orgs. If you’ve set yourself as “Bob Wilson” in your home org, you appear as “Bob Wilson” in every guest org too.
If you’d prefer different names per org — e.g. “Bob Wilson | Acme Consulting” in client orgs — that’s not currently supported. Talk to us if it’s a real need.
